In their latest piece, Global Health Security and the Elusive Economic Lens, we explore why the next generation of pandemic preparedness decisions depends on clearer evidence of value, trade-offs, and return. While technical frameworks and capacity benchmarks exist, there is still a gap in practical, trusted economic tools to help national decision-makers - especially finance officials - weigh preparedness investments against competing priorities and demonstrate their economic ROI. The paper argues for developing budgetary decision support tools that connect preparedness to value, affordability, and strategic return, enabling countries to make stronger, more sustainable investments in health security.
